  • Theta Kappa Brother William “Bill” E. Brent III (ΘΚ 43), age 65 of Columbia, SC passed to Chapter Eternal on Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Macon after an extended battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born in Missouri in 1949, to the late William E. Brent Jr. and Grace M. Brent. He was raised in Lawrence, KS and Atlanta, GA, where he was to meet Sharon, his wife of 35 years. He graduated from Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Young Harris Jr. College and Georgia Southern College where he graduated in 1971. He served in the Air Force Reserves in Charleston during and after his college years.

Bill was previously employed by Empire Distributors and General Wholesale in Atlanta and Ben Arnold-Sunbelt Beverage Company in Columbia. He loved the wine industry, including the longtime friendships he made and travelling to many areas of the world to see the vineyards! His travels were made even more special when his family could join with him. As a faithful member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, he enjoyed serving the church as a deacon and an elder, as well as teaching Sunday school. Loving to spend time outdoors, his favorite past times were playing softball and golf. Bill was the life of the party and his humor and wit could always bring a smile.

The family wants to thank everyone for the prayers, love and support these past few years and the wonderful care Bill received the past year from Lexington Extended Care, Tri-County Hospice and Amedysis Home Health. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, you all brought many smiles, encouragement and kept Bill’s humor going.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon Brent, sons Allen Brent and David (Anna) Brent of Irmo, sister Nancy Douglas of Powder Springs, GA, sister-in-law Patricia Flory of Ft. Payne, AL, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close family friends.

Funeral services were Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. The family greeted friends and loved ones after the service in The Great Hall.
